The key purpose of these roles is to support the administration of the London Environment Directors’ Network (LEDNet)’s annual work programme and to support the Rough Sleeping Project Team and Housing and Planning Team in their efforts to prevent rough sleeping across London. We are recruiting two candidates, with each candidate being placed in either the LEDNet team or the Rough Sleeping Project Team.

LEDNet has a varied and exciting programme of work, delivering research, joint projects, and policy advocacy to support the delivery of environmental priorities within the boroughs. The successful candidate for this team will build professional expertise in business administration, public policy, and environmental topics such as climate change and adaptation, sustainable transportation, waste services, surface water flooding, and green spaces.

The Rough Sleeping Project Team and Housing and Planning Team focus on preventing rough sleeping across London. The successful candidate for this team will build professional expertise in business administration, public policy, and addressing homelessness and rough sleeping pressures in London.

Job Introduction

LEDNet Coordination (Transport and Environment Team)

Rough Sleeping Project (Housing and Planning Team)

Responsible to: Rough Sleeping Project Manager

Key contacts: Rough Sleeping Leads and Housing Workers at Local Authorities; London Councils staff; Committees and Forums of London Councils; Greater London Authority (GLA); Department of Levelling Up, Housing & Communities (DLUHC)

Role Responsibility

LEDNet Coordination (Transport and Environment Team)

Key activities 

  1. Assist with administration of LEDNet meetings, including the preparation and planning of agendas, taking minutes of meetings and liaising with speakers/presenters.
  2. Support general administration and smooth running of the Network, including liaising with LEDNet members, external organisations and Corporate Members.
  3. Support LEDNet’s policy advocacy and programme work through desk-based research and surveys, attending partnership meetings and preparation of topic papers and briefings notes.
  4. Assist in the planning and organising of other events and publications as appropriate. Take the lead on such projects as required, using relevant project management principles to be developed during this apprenticeship.
  5. Contribute to written communications and presentations for LEDNet, including the LEDNet newsletter, web and social media pages and update reports.
  6. Attend and complete all training elements of the apprenticeship, as well as supervisions and monitoring sessions with placement coordinators and college assessors.
  7. Complete workplace learning in order to become competent to a level 3 standard.

 

Rough Sleeping Project (Housing and Planning Team)

Key activities 

  1. Support and administer the team, including liaising with  a wide range of stakeholders across London local government, central government, the Mayor and Greater London Authority, service providers, and the NHS. 
  2.  Assisting with the administration of external meetings. Prepare and plan agendas, take meeting notes, and liaise with speakers.
  3. Support policy and programme work with research, collating data and collecting survey responses from London boroughs and other external organisations to enable local authorities in delivering a successful and sustainable end to rough sleeping.
  4. Assist in the planning and organising of other events and publications as appropriate. Take the lead on such projects as required, using relevant project management principles to be developed during this apprenticeship.
  5. Contribute to communications and presentations, including newsletters and reports.
  6. Attend and complete all training elements of the apprenticeship, as well as supervisions and monitoring sessions with placement coordinators and college assessors.
  7. Complete workplace learning in order to become competent to a level 3 standard.


 

General Duties 

  1. Contribute to team and personal training, and the work of the team and wider organisation.
  2. Build and maintain effective working relationships with colleagues, customers and partner organisations. Lead on or contribute to joint project working with them.
  3. Contribute to, support and comply with London Councils’ equality and quality standards, and implement those standards within the post.
  4. Support the organisation and department in developing initiatives and policies. Adhere to London Councils’ corporate policies, procedures and regulations. 
  5. Take care at all times to uphold health and safety at work, observing London Councils Health and Safety policy and related procedures.
  6. Carry out any other duties appropriate to the post.

Education

  1. A-level or equivalent qualifications.

 

Knowledge

  1. A basic understanding of:
  • homelessness and rough sleeping pressures in London or
  • environmental sustainability and climate-related issues in London.

       2. A basic understanding of:

  • the homelessness services that London boroughs provide to their residents or
  • the environmental services that London boroughs provide to their residents.

 

Skills and Abilities

  1. Good interpersonal skills.
  2. Skills in using Microsoft Office including Outlook, Word, Excel and Powerpoint.
  3. Good organisational skills. Able to manage own workload, prioritise between conflicting demands, and contribute to an efficient office environment.
  4. Effective written communication skills. Able to take meeting notes and summarise information accurately.
  5. Able to build and form working relationships, and work flexibly with people in different organisations and job roles.
  6. Able to work independently and show initiative.
  7. Able to maintain confidentiality in dealing with a variety of sensitive issues.
  8. Knowledge of and commitment to equal opportunities.

 

Personal Characteristics

  1. A keen interest in:
  • ending rough sleeping and a passion for supporting vulnerable groups or
  • environmental sustainability and passion for addressing climate-related issues.

       2. A good team player, comfortable with working in small teams and with a commitment to working in partnership with colleagues within the:

  • Housing and Planning Team or
  • LEDNet team
  • and London Councils as a whole.

       4. Excellent attention to detail and commitment to high quality work.

       5. Highly motivated, enthusiastic with a “can do” mind-set.

       6. Ambitious with a commitment to personal development.

 

Employees have a duty to behave in a way that reflects well on London Councils. Staff must work at all times within the law and according to London Councils policies, procedures and regulations, including the Data Protection Act.

Evening and out-of-hours working may be required on occasions, with time off in lieu given. There may be occasional travel within England and Wales.
